Why They Came To Us

They approached us to carry out sensitive fabric repairs works

Having successfully delivered a project previously for our client, they approached us to carry out sensitive fabric repairs works to this building in the Heart of Edinburgh which was being transformed from an empty building to a training centre for all their staff. As part of the works package we were also asked to supply and construct a new disabled ramp to the front entrance of the site.

Challenges

This project was extremely tight

The programme on this project was extremely tight and our client wanted to initially focus on all high-level chimney works on this job due to the sequencing that was required in order to meet programme deadlines.

Our Process

All high-level chimneys were carefully repointed

All high-level chimneys were carefully repointed, replacing all missing and fractured pointing mortar to beds and joints.

On low level elevations, stone repairs were carefully carried out in an agreed lime mortar along with localised repointing works.

Our Process

We encountered some challenges with the existing level of the proposed ramp area levels

For the disabled ramp, we encountered some challenges with the existing level of the proposed ramp area levels needing altered to accommodate existing levels on site. This included raising the stonework to the ramps to ensure all handrails met legal requirements and the rise / going to the stairs were able to tie in with the finished level at the front doors.

Results

Stratum Masonry Delivers

All new stonework was supplied and installed by Stratum Masonry which included some sections of stone weighing over 350Kg.
