Why They Came To Us

Stratum Masonry were appointed Main Contractor

Stratum Masonry were appointed Main Contractor following a competitive tender process on this project through a CARS scheme where we were tasked in delivering a sensitive masonry fabric project for this C listed building in Paisley City Centre.

Our Process

Our first part of the project was to send off all stone and mortar samples for analysis

Our first part of the project was to send off all stone and mortar samples for analysis and to ensure all proposed stone and mortars were fit for purpose and compatible with the historic fabric on site.

Once the stone type was agreed following trial samples being approved, extensive stone replacement works to the masonry fabric was carried out, removing damaged masonry units that had been coated in cement mortars over the years and was causing accelerated decay.

Our Process

Our inhouse stonemasons carefully extracted all the historic detail of the masonry

Our inhouse stonemasons carefully extracted all the historic detail of the masonry, the sizes and mouldings so they could carve all new sections of stonework to match the original stonework in both detail and size.

The building benefited from repointing works being carried out as part of the contract and our biggest challenge was ensuring our client was able to remain open for business to the general public. The building was extremely busy, and this required careful planning and continual communication with key stakeholders throughout.
